Dr Chen Pelf Nyok

Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia

Dr. Chen Pelf Nyok is a marine biologist, conservationist and entrepreneur. In 2011, Pelf co-founded Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS), a non-profit NGO dedicated to the conservation of freshwater turtles in Malaysia. She is also a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group.

Dr Pelf has been working with local communities in Terengganu to protect and conserve the Critically Endangered river terrapins for the past 17 years. She has conducted numerous turtle education programmes with school students as well as nature trips for members of the public.

Dr Pelf was recently named the “Commonwealth Point of Light for Malaysia” from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her turtle conservation efforts.
